Posture and set-up training
As ergonomists we have found one of the main reasons for musculoskeletal disorders in office environments is poor posture and equipment set up. People will rarely adjust any aspect of their workstation, most commonly the only thing adjusted is seat height and more often than not that is adjusted incorrectly. In particular people do not understand how the spine works and how it is affected by poor posture. In the short term poor posture may lead to discomfort but left unchecked over a longer period of time this could result in more chronic musculoskeletal problems such as back pain, neck and shoulder pain, RSI, Sciatica etc.
We can run posture and set-up training sessions to ensure that people within your organisation are aware of the following:
✔ What is ergonomics?
✔ Why is it important?
✔ What can happen as a result of poor posture
✔ The spine and how it works
✔ What is good posture?
✔ How to adjust your chair for good posture
✔ Setting up your desk
✔ Height adjustable desks (if applicable)
✔ Screen positioning
✔ Mouse and keyboard positioning
✔ Reading and writing
✔ Laptops
✔ Smartphones and tablets
✔ Other equipment
Delivered by our chartered ergonomists this session would usually last around 90 minutes and would ensure that attendees are aware of the benefits of good posture and set up at their workstation. This session would help you comply with the requirements of the Display Screen Equipment (DSE) regulations (1992 and amended in 2002). The DSE regulations can be found here
